If you drive in Osceola County, here’s some important news from local law enforcement – warning time is over. Since January, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Kissimmee Police Department and the St. Cloud Police Department have been issuing warnings to crosswalk violators, educating drivers on Florida’s driver yield law.
On April 18, the three agencies will take part in Osceola County’s first Operation Best Foot Forward, a crosswalk crackdown where officers will ticket drivers who fail to yield to people using the crosswalk to cross the street. These driver’s face a $166 ticket and three points on their license. Compared to a life that could be taken by failing to yield, it is a small price to pay.
Both the Osceola News-Gazette and the City of St. Cloud are doing their part to spread the message.
Charlie Reed with the Osceola News-Gazette interviewed Amanda Day, Program Director for Best Foot Forward, for his story ‘Crosswalk Crackdown’ set to reduce deaths, which you can read here.
