With pedestrian fatalities rising nationwide, the urgent need for safer roadways has never been more…
Orange County ped safety advocates spread the love in March
It was a love fest of community partners and bike/pedestrian advocation in Orange County last month – literally. Neighbors came together for two educational and impactful community events: the Mills50 Love Fest and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Neighborhood and Community Summit. Best Foot Forward is incredibly grateful for such widespread partner support and thankful to have a platform to spread the message of safety for both drivers and walkers at events like these. Check out some highlights and photos from both events below.
Mills50 Love Fest
Around 200 Orange County neighbors walked and drove to this social and educational event in the Mills50 district in downtown Orlando. Best Foot Forward set up an educational table and introduced pedestrian safety initiatives to the community. This meant handing out educational materials and answering important questions about Florida’s driver yield laws and how crashes can be reduced by being more aware behind the wheel and on foot. Downtown Orlando is an especially important place to discuss pedestrian safety – many walkers expressed concern about speeding and distracted drivers in the area.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Neighborhood and Community Summit
Best Foot Forward and many local government partners joined Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer for the annual Neighborhood and Community Summit – an event with opportunity to learn about the city through workshops, exhibits and presentations of city programs, resources and services. Each year, this event gives neighbors the chance to share experiences and form new relationships in an effort to make an even greater impact on their community. BFF was fortunate enough to host a table with information about the program and bike/ped safety tips. Other BFF partners, like the City of Orlando Transportation, also shared crucial knowledge with the community.
