With pedestrian fatalities rising nationwide, the urgent need for safer roadways has never been more…
$2 Million Grant for Education & Enforcement
NHTSA announced it is making $2 million pedestrian safety grants available for education and enforcement efforts to combat the rising number of ped deaths. Twenty-two communities were selected to submit and only six communities will be selected. The Metro Orlando area made this list because ped deaths exceed the national average. NTHSA tells us they will announce the grant recipients in October. FDOT and MetroPlan Orlando submitted the application, which will allow BFF to expand its efforts into surrounding counties.
Thanks to BFF partners who wrote a letter of support for this grant — City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins, LYNX CEO John Lewis, Winter Park Health Foundation President and CEO Patty Maddox, and Bike/Walk Central Florida. Stay tuned for more news regarding the grant coming in October!
