With pedestrian fatalities rising nationwide, the urgent need for safer roadways has never been more…
The Super Bowl of Ped Safety Initiatives
Talk about PED engagement. Try this: More than$100,000 worth of media coverage and reaching 1 million+ people through 6 TV stations, 3 community pubs and a host of online bloggers. Not to mention Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…with likes, retweets, comments from the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Department of Education, Streetsblog USA, Smart Growth American (Dangerous by Design), Safe Routes Central Florida, OCPS, MetroPlan Orlando, Downtown South, Orange County, OCSO, City of Orlando…and the list goes on.
Dubbed the “PED Super Bowl” – Day 1 (Oct. 7) kicked-off with Operation Best Foot Forward with OPD and OSCO issuing warnings and tickets for drivers failing to yield. International Walk to School Day took center stage on Day 2, and then the week ended with more high-visibility enforcement. Residents and visitors got the message that Orange County, the City of Orlando, Orange County Public Schools and all the BFF partners are serious about PED safety.
Shout out to OCPS School Board Member Nancy Robbinson for the Facebook mention and to Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell for his comment on Twitter. If you missed the conversation, search for #iY4P and #iyieldforpeds on Facebook and Twitter.
Many thanks to WFTV, WESH, WKMG, Central Florida News 13, Central Florida’s TV 27, and CW18 for the awesome TV coverage, which can be seen on our YouTube page.
