With pedestrian fatalities rising nationwide, the urgent need for safer roadways has never been more…
Pine Hills Press Puts Spotlight on Road Safety
The Pine Hills Press, a free newspaper that has been keeping residents of Pine Hills and neighboring communities informed for 23 years, puts the pressure on for safer streets in it’s June/July issue.
An article focusing on the problems of our car-centric mindset brings up the unfortunate fact that pedestrian deaths rose 27% from 2007 to 2016, making it a 25-year high. It goes on to cite contributing factors, ending with one possible solution the area. Get the full story on our dangerous roads here.
In light of the recent death of a young pregnant woman and her unborn child trying to cross the road, falling just weeks after a young boy was hit and killed, a community discussion on pedestrian safety was held to talk about what needs to be done. Florida Representative Bruce Antone, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Planner Brian Sanders, FDOT Safety Specialist Chad Lingenfelter, and MetroPlan Planner Mighk Wilson met with the Pine Hills Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety committee where growing safety concerns and solutions were discussed with concerned community members.
Thank you to the Pine Hills Press for bringing awareness to these issues in our communities.
