Orlando area police officers train in pedestrian/bicycle safety law enforcement

Orlando Police Department (OPD) hosted four “FDOT Alert Today Alive Tomorrow Pedestrian and Bicycle Law Enforcement: Laws, Procedures and Best Practices” training classes.  The classes are being presented throughout Florida by the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) on FDOT’s behalf.  OPD invited BFF to share law enforcement’s part in BFF program.

The four-hour class is specifically for Florida law enforcement officers and is designed to help agencies enhance their local pedestrian and bicycle safety efforts and address the high injury and fatality crash problems in their communities.  It also satisfies the training requirement for Florida law enforcement officers who wish to take part in overtime enforcement operations under the Florida Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian/Bicycle Focused Initiative High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) contracts.

In addition to OPD, a few officers from Sanford Police Department, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and Maitland Police Department participated in the training. Brenda Young from FDOT thanked OPD for opening their training to other Central Florida agencies and all attendees for making bike/ped safety a priority.
