BFF New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year! In 2019, we worked hard to advocate for pedestrian safety and potentially save lives using our proven Triple E approach – and will do the same in 2020! While we celebrated successes big and small last year, there is still room for growth as we enter a new decade! Here are BFF’s New Year’s resolutions for 2020 – are any of yours the same?

  1. Yield for all pedestrians!
OPD: Edgewater and Shady Lane

Maybe it’s not a resolution (it’s Florida law), but it’s something we keep in mind every year. Pedestrians always have the right of way once they’ve stepped foot into a marked crosswalk. This year, we’re making it our resolution (and you should make it yours too) to yield for all pedestrians and save lives.

  1. Take the SunRail up to Sanford

In 2020, we’re using Orlando’s great modes of sustainable transportation! One of our favorites – the SunRail. This year we’re going to take the SunRail all the way to Sanford to check out some new bike and pedestrian trails. Join us!

  1. Walk across the Colonial pedestrian bridge

We plan to continue to take advantage of one of Orlando’s great pedestrian paths this year – the Colonial Pedestrian Bridge! Our resolution is to make more commutes, casual strolls and power walks into the heart of the City Beautiful comfortable, not having to worry about cars at all!

  1. Educate drivers and walkers in Seminole County
Best Foot Forward Seminole Coalition

In 2019, we were fortunate enough to add Seminole County partners to our ever-growing coalition! With more than 10 new cities, police departments and sheriff’s offices on our team, we’re dedicated to spreading the word of crosswalk safety in Seminole County in 2020. We can’t wait for our first enforcement in February! Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about our amazing partners in Orange and Osceola Counties. We’re pumped to continue making progress by getting more drivers to yield for pedestrians in your counties too!

  1. Work with cities toward better pedestrian engineering
OPD: Edgewater and Shady Lane

We’ve educated, we’ve enforced—but our Triple E approach isn’t complete with out low-cost Engineering. Our partners across all three counties depend on the data BFF collects to help them improve crosswalk safety with everything from new paint to Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons. Together, there’s nothing we can’t do – and no reason pedestrians should feel uncomfortable on the roads.
