As parents and children prepare for the start of the new school year this month,…
Food for Thought: Celebration Residents Get a Taste of Pedestrian Safety
A love of food combined with a zest for safety; the perfect recipe for Best Foot Forward (BFF) to serve up on Valentine’s Day for Celebration residents.
It all took place on Food Truck Friday, which happened to be on Valentine’s Day. Best Foot Forward hosted an information table and spoke about the three new BFF crosswalks the team is now monitoring in Celebration.
Celebration residents were pleased to hear about the efforts BFF is making to keep pedestrians safe. Many voiced concerns about pedestrians also needing more crosswalk safety education, as well as the area needing a crackdown on drivers rolling through stop signs. One woman told of how she was almost struck at the Celebration Ave. and Waterside crosswalk. Those concerns are being answered as a crosswalk crackdown is planned soon.
Nearly 300 people from the community were there, including plenty of children running around, playing ball, skateboarding and riding bikes throughout the night. However, hardly any of the children riding bikes in the community were wearing helmets. The perfect teachable moment!
Our team took notice and is focused on future community presentations and bicycle helmet fittings in Celebration.
Also, BFF is passing along a request for enforcement of stop signs. Duly noted and more than just food for thought. Stay tuned.
