With pedestrian fatalities rising nationwide, the urgent need for safer roadways has never been more…
To Your Health: Longwood Health Fair Outreach
What’s healthier than a good walk? How about a safe one? In Longwood, health and safety go hand-in-hand— step-by-step.
On Saturday, February 15, Best Foot Forward (BFF) took part in the Longwood Health Fair, setting up shop on the front porch of the Longwood Community Center to educate people about the importance of pedestrian and bicycle safety.
Longwood City Commissioner Abby K. Shoemaker stopped by BFF’s table and got a preview of the county-wide, high-visibility crosswalk enforcement action coming up just days later, on February 18. Commissioner Shoemaker said thanks for sharing and appreciated learning more about the BFF program and the crosswalk crackdown, or Operation BFF. Nancy Cancel the Community Relations Coordinator at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office also stopped by.
Between attendees and vendors, nearly 90 people learned more about pedestrian and bicycle safety. They, too, got a preview about the upcoming Operation BFF crosswalk enforcement at Church Ave. & Myrtle St., Ronald Reagan Blvd. & Church Ave., and US 17-92 & State Road 434.
In addition to free advice, there was some free stuff too. At the end of the event BFF gave away two personally fitted bicycle helmets to the lucky raffle winners.
